News Article 2004: Camberley's ........ Young's & Church's
Jackie & Geoff Church
[front right/middle] celebrate 10 years of bowling at Camberley where they are
active members of the club. Both have won Honours on the bowling green and this
year Jackie [front right] is Ladies Captain, so has a busy year ahead
officiating in her duties with Geoff taking the supporting role no doubt.
A few years ago they
encouraged their grandchildren to ‘give it a go’ and maybe a little
surprisingly, found the boys loved it. So now, after many hours of encouragement
and support they see James [16yrs, top left] and Tom [14yrs, top right] really
take to the game and have already started to win some honours.
Last year James won
the Club’s Mixed & Men's Pairs whilst teaming up with Dad as part of the
team that reached the final of the Hawley Open 4’s. Tom reached the semi-final
of the Novice Cup and also won two of the Thursday evening challenge matches.
This year Emily Young
[11yrs] joins Camberley as a full junior member and is looking forward to
joining a happy group of junior bowlers at Camberley Bowling Club. Both the Club
and coaching staff welcomes any new members whether young or mature and it
really does seem Bowls is a game that cuts across the age limit!
I guess Dad said if
you cant beat ‘em join them, so I wonder how he’ll get on when they get to
play against each other in the forthcoming season’s competitions? Quintin
Young is in his first full season and is sure to meet up against the lads in
some competition or other…..better get some practice Quintin methinks !!
As the outdoor season
is almost upon us, Thursday evening is club night where we welcome any
prospective new members, please come see us at Camberley Bowling Club – The
Pavilion – Southwell Park Rd – Camberley. New members may also contact Geoff Church on 01276 63130.
