Bowling at Camberley..... friendly, fun, social
& competitive !
Once
the season gets into full swing there are bowls matches of one sort or another
almost every day. We cater for both the competitive bowler and the occasional
social bowler, something for all.
Friendly
matches
At the heart of the club and throughout the season we play friendly matches of
Rinks [4 players] and Triples, at home and
away, mostly against other local clubs. These take place at weekends, weekdays
both afternoons and during the evening, enabling all to choose a suitable time to
play.
For many
bowlers new to the game, these friendlies provide the first taste of competitive, but social bowling, followed by
tea or supper as appropriate. Camberley also has an annual home and away match
against Rowner Bowling Club in Portsmouth and both clubs enjoy a spirited time on the green
and in the bar afterwards.
Very
much in that vain we acknowledge and thank ESSO for their continued support of
Camberley Bowling Club as they host one of our 'Bowling Days' and this is a great bowling,
fun and social
experience, and we look forward to welcoming our ESSO friends for the 2006 annual match!
League
games
Camberley
Men's and Ladies' bowling sections compete in National, County and District
competitions and local Leagues. The Men’s Aldershot & District league games are
played on Tuesday evenings throughout the season, whilst for the Ladies, Friday evening sees Blackwater
Valley play, with Monday evening the West Surrey League. A popular match is the Knaphill League where Mixed Teams [Triples] play every Thursday afternoon.
This
year Camberley has also entered Teams in the West Surrey Sapphire League, more
members and playing ability has enabled us to do this.
Club
competitions
A comprehensive range of club tournaments allows for
friendly rivalry between members and the challenge of honing the game for that match moment. All
members are encouraged to take part for Club Honours and these competitions
see the winners receive their trophies at the end of season presentation night.
There is
also the annual Novice Cup for those new to bowls and improving.
For
the more serious bowler the Club Championships and other major competitions
offers a chance to challenge those holding the title from the previous year [see
Camberley Honours Board].
Camberley
also runs an Open Triples Tournament - this year on Sunday Sept 3rd 2006. For an
entry form click here or call 07840
302859. We thank our sponsors, Kingsclear Care Homes,
Charters
Peugeot of Camberley and Notcutts Garden
Centres for their continuing support in helping to provide for
the day.
