Bowls & the new Stamp regulations

"Phased Introduction of Current World Bowls Stamp"

An emergency meeting of the representatives of the four Flat-Green National Governing Bodies for Bowling in England, met on Friday 30th January 2004 to discuss the introduction of the "Current World Bowls Stamp". This was in response to members’ concerns raised within each Association.

The following was agreed:-

All
composition bowls (not lignum vitae) must bear a legible stamp for 1985 or later.

For National Championships the following was agreed:
(i) EWIBA - with effect from 2003/4, only competitors reaching the Final Stages of any National Championships will be required to comply with law 12 of the laws of the sport. In addition law 9(b)(Indoor Version) will not apply to such competitors.

(ii)  EIBA - with effect from 2004/5, only competitors reaching the Final Stages of any National Championships will be required to comply with law 12 of the laws of the sport. In addition law 9(b)(Indoor Version) will not apply to such competitors.

(iii) EBA - with effect from 2005, all competitors qualifying for the National Championships will be required to comply with law 12 of the laws of the sport.

(iv) EWBA - with effect from 2005, all competitors qualifying for the National Championships will be required to comply with law 12 of the laws of the sport.

 Law 12 states:

Licensed Manufacturers and Testers will be entitled to use the registered World Bowls Stamp to facilitate the imprint between the inner and outer rings of bowls. Imprints on running surfaces should be avoided wherever possible

* Indoor Bowlers should however note that
Law 9B (Indoor Version) states:

* “Bowls shall only require to be re-tested and re-stamped if the date of the stamp is not clearly legible. The W.I.B.C. and the other Indoor Controlling Bodies reserve the right to test bowls intended for play in any indoor bowls event under their direct control”

Further Information

The new Laws of the Sport (including English variations) are available from the EBA, EWBA, EIBA and EWIBA from late February priced £1.50 each plus postage.

Competitors are reminded that whilst the 1985 or later rule applies to Competitions leading to National Finals, it may be prudent for competitors to acquire the new WB stamp at the commencement of the respective competition year. Otherwise qualifiers for the National Championships may find there is insufficient time in order for bowls to be tested and stamped.
